خسر حزب العمال البريطاني، الذي حقق فوزاً كبيراً على منافسه التقليدي حزب المحافظين، 4 مقاعد أمام مرشحين مستقلين داعمين لغزة في الانتخابات العامة التي أُجريت الخميس 4 يوليو/تموز 2024.

وبحسب النتائج الأولية، فقد فاز حزب العمال بأغلبية 410 مقاعد مقابل 131 للمحافظين.

شوكت آدم

ففي دائرة ليستر الجنوبية في شرق ميدلاندز، أطاح المرشح المستقل المؤيد لفلسطين، شوكت آدم، بوزير حكومة الظل في حزب العمال جون آشوورث، في واحدة من أكبر المفاجآت في الانتخابات العامة في المملكة المتحدة، حسبما نشر موقع ميدل إيست آي البريطاني.

حصل آدم، 51 عاماً، على 14739 صوتاً، متغلباً على آشورث، الذي حصل على 13760 صوتاً، بهامش ضئيل بلغ 979 صوتاً.

وقال ميدل إيست آي إن حزب العمال سيطر على دائرة ليستر الجنوبية لعقود من الزمن. وباستثناء فترة وجيزة من حكم الديمقراطيين الليبراليين في عامي 2004 و2005، والتي يُنظَر إليها على نطاق واسع باعتبارها احتجاجاً على حرب العراق، فقد حظيت دائرة إيست ميدلاندز بنائب عن حزب العمال منذ عام 1987.

ونقل الموقع البريطاني عن آدم قوله إنه قرر الترشح في محاولة لتعطيل نظام الحزبين وتمثيل الأشخاص الذين شعروا أن الطبقة السياسية لم تعد تستمع إلى أصواتهم.

وقال آدم الشهر الماضي: “القضية الفلسطينية قريبة للغاية من قلب المجتمع، ولكن عندما كانوا بحاجة إلى صوت عالٍ وواضح ومميز، كان هذا الصوت مفقوداً”.

وأضاف:”كيف يمكننا أن نقف مكتوفي الأيدي عندما نشهد مذبحة تلو الأخرى؟”

عدنان حسين

وفي بلدة بلدة بلاكبيرن الصناعية السابقة في شمال غرب البلاد أيضاً، فاز المرشح المستقل عدنان حسين على مرشحة حزب العمال كيت هوليرن في يوم.

ونجح المبتدئ في المجال السياسي، حسبما وصفه تقرير موقع ميدل إيست آي، في تأمين 10518 صوتاً بفارق ضئيل بلغ 132 صوتاً فقط مقابل 10386 صوتًا لهوليرن.

يُذكر أن حزب العمال احتفظ بمقعد الدائرة الواقعة في شمال غرب مدينة بلاكبيرن لمدة 69 عاماً.

وقد تلقى حسين، المحامي البالغ من العمر 34 عاماً، دعماً من مجموعة من أعضاء مجلس حزب العمال السابقين الذين استقالوا من الحزب بسبب سياسته تجاه غزة. وفي الانتخابات المحلية في أوائل مايو/أيار، أصبحت المجموعة ثاني أكبر حزب في المنطقة.

وفي منتصف يونيو/حزيران، قال حسين لموقع ميدل إيست آي إنه واثق من فوزه. وأضاف: “لقد نشأت في هذا المجتمع. وأتحدث لغتهم. وأعرف معاناتهم”.

وكانت مرشحة حزب العمال هوليرن قد نجحت في الحصول على 64.9% من الأصوات في انتخابات 2019، لكن دعم الحزب المبكر لحرب إسرائيل على غزة كان يُنظر إليه على أنه المحرك الرئيسي لخسارتها لأصوات المسلمين، الذين يشكلون 35% من الناخبين المحليين، فضلاً عن العديد من الآخرين الذين شعروا بالفزع من الصراع.

إقبال حسين

وفي دائرة ديوزبيري وباتلي في غرب يوركشاير، انتخب المرشح المؤيد لفلسطين إقبال حسين محمد لعضوية البرلمان بأغلبية ساحقة، بعد فوزه على مرشحة حزب العمال هيذر إقبال.

وقد استقال محمد، وهو مهندس ومستشار في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات، من حزب العمال بسبب دعم زعيم الحزب كير ستارمر لحرب إسرائيل على غزة.

أيوب خان

وفي برمنغهام، خسر النائب العمالي السابق خالد محمود أمام المستقل أيوب خان الذي قال إنه ترشّح مستقلاً في الانتخابات البرلمانية، بعدما استبعده حزب الديمقراطيين الليبراليين من لائحتهم لرفضه الصمت عما يجري بقطاع غزة وتمسكه بمناهضة الحرب الإسرائيلية.

ولأشهر، أعرب العديد من الناخبين في جميع أنحاء المملكة المتحدة عن استيائهم من حزب العمال المعارض، وخاصة بشأن موقفه المبكر من حرب غزة وعدم دعوته إلى وقف إطلاق النار الشامل.

ورغم أن الحزب غير موقفه لاحقاً، فإن كثيرين قالوا إنهم شعروا بأنهم ملزمون بالتصويت لصالح مرشح وحزب يؤيدان وقف إطلاق النار بشكل دائم.

وكانت تقارير سابقة أشارت إلى حركة استقالات واسعة في حزب العمال احتجاجاً على موقفه من حرب غزة والتمييز الذي واجهه أعضاء مسلمون بالحزب.

يذكر أن جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي شن حرباً واسعة النطاق على غزة من السابع من أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2023 خلفت أكثر من 120,000 بين قتيل وجريح فلسطيني، فضلاً عن تدمير مساحات واسعة من الأراضي المحاصرة وإجبار جميع سكان القطاع تقريباً على الفرار من منازلهم مرة واحدة على الأقل.
